 It has to be important to you, personally.
 It has to be within your power to make it happen through your own

                       actions.

 It has to be realistic i.e. something you have a reasonable chance of
                       achieving.

 It must be clearly defined and have a specific plan of action.

We actually set goals regularly when we plan what we want to accomplish that

day, that week, or even that month. Those are usually fairly simple goals, i.e.,
sort out the documents that need filing, finish an assignment, do your laundry

                   etc.

You decide what you want to do and then figure out what you need to do to
                   achieve your goal.

A short-term goal is a goal that takes a shorter time to

accomplish. It may take anything from a few days to even
                            weeks or months to achieve.

A long-term goal takes a longer period of time to achieve.

                   For example:

LONG-TERM GOAL: To become computer literate.

Your long-term goal will be achieved through a variety of short-term

goals that will ultimately help you to become computer literate e.g.

                   SHORT-TERM GOALS:

                   1. Sign up for a computer course.

                   2. Attend the necessary lectures.

                   3. Spend at least 20 minutes per day practising keyboard and mouse skills.
