2. NEGATIVE STRESS
Nowadays, most of the threats – or challenges – we face are mental or
emotional rather than physical, in other words, stresses generated from within.
You worry, trying to prepare yourself for something that might –
or might not – happen. You try to do more than you can realistically
accomplish, to control what simply cannot be controlled. This is negative
stress, and stress of a type that can be very destructive. But it is also the type
of stress that you can learn to manage or even significantly reduce.
Harder to control, but nevertheless manageable, are the stresses caused by
your environment.
For example:
You might be working with someone you find really unpleasant
You might be working long hours and have little time for rest
You might be parted from a loved one
You might be living in a disorganised household
Each of the above situations will cause a significant amount of negative stress
in your life.
