Take a hot bath.
Just as music soothes mind and spirit, so does warm water soothe the body.
Add some bath salts (or just ordinary coarse salt) to relax your muscles – it
works!
Create a more stress-free environment.
Do something about poor light or ventilation and try to reduce noise. You
might enjoy loud music, but any loud sounds, particularly monotonous sounds
(like hammering), add to stress when you’re tense.
Get enough undisturbed sleep.
Make sure you get enough sleep. Working to all hours of the night and starting
at the crack of dawn will make you less, rather than more, productive. Close
your office door during your lunch hour and take a ‘power nap’. If you can’t
sleep for short intervals, get out of there! Treat yourself to a foamy cappuccino
or just sit outside somewhere and stare at people walking by.
Have a good cry.
Don’t bottle up your feelings. Picture a bottle of champagne that has been
shaken really hard and imagine the pressure on that cork. It’s going to pop off
any minute and do some damage. Take the cork off and release those pent-
up emotions – but do it in private. Oh, and by the way, cowboys do cry so this
tip isn’t just for women!
