3. STRESS COPING STRATEGIES
Balance work and play
Many people are workaholics: literally, for one reason or another, they
become addicted to work. It can happen to any of us and, unfortunately, few
workaholics actually feel that their lives are meaningful. The reason is simply
that their lives lack balance.
Balance between work and leisure can be hard to achieve and even
harder to maintain.
Some tips:
• Work hard but within strict limits. Define the boundary between work and
leisure and don’t allow it to blur.
• Set rules for yourself, such as not working over weekends, or not working
beyond a certain time in the evening. Only break your own rules when
there’s a really important deadline – and if you have to do so, ask yourself
whether it’s the result of poor time management!
• Plan time for your life outside working hours. Spend time with family,
friends and loved ones.
• Schedule time for holidays, “fun” activities and relaxation. Give yourself the
chance to “re-charge your batteries” and you’ll be more productive at work.
