DON’T leave short periods of time between appointments where that
time cannot be utilised to achieve an objective or get something done. For
example, if you schedule an appointment for 08h30 to 09h00 and your next
appointment is at 09h20, that’s twenty minutes in which you will find yourself
rather unproductive. Rather schedule appointments and meetings back to
back i.e. one directly to follow the other.
DO allocate sufficient periods of time if you are working on a project to
ensure that you can start and complete the task. For example, if you have
allocated yourself three half hour periods in the day to tackle something, you’d
do better to rather allocate yourself one continuous uninterrupted hour and a
half so that you can focus and wrap it up all in one go.
DO schedule to have tasks completed ahead of the deadline date as
this allocates extra time for emergencies or hiccups and unforeseen problems.
DO schedule from the most important to the least important. Should
time run away from you, you will have the balance of the week to ensure that
those urgent tasks have been tackled. The not-so-urgent tasks can, of course,
be re-scheduled for the following week.
DO schedule important tasks to be done during the time of day when
you are at your best mentally and physically. If you are at your peak, you will
be more productive.
