                                           URGENT VS IMPORTANT GRID

A: Urgent and Important B: Important not urgent
                                                                   • Preparation
                             • Crises
                             • Pressing problems • Prevention
                             • Deadline-driven • Planning
                                 projects, meetings, • Relationship building
                                 preparations • Empowerment

                          C: Urgent but not
                                                                D: Neither Important nor
                          important urgent

                             • Interruptions • Trivia
                             • Some meetings, reports, • Junk Mail
phone calls, mail • Time Wasters
                             • Pressing matters • Busywork (not
                             • Many popular activities constructive work)
                                                                   • “Escape” activities

Quadrant A represents the urgent and important.

For example: an irate customer, a hurt child, a machine breakdown, accident,

                   major surgery……

We need to spend time in Quadrant A as this is where we manage, where we
produce, where we utilise our expertise and experience in response to

pressing needs and challenges. If we don’t, we will become buried alive.

However, we must ask ourselves whether any of those important activities or
tasks become urgent because we have procrastinated or failed to plan?
